Solo for voice 87 re-played
Solo for voice 87 re-played, was created in the framework of Songbooks as playing instructions (Songbooks als Spielanleitung) a coproduction of the Berlin Academy of the arts (Akademie der Künste) and the Inter-University Centre for Dance, HZT-Berlin, as part of the exhibition A year from Monday – 365 Days of Cage. The songbooks, written by John Cage in 1970, were used in the project as a base for a set of performances by various artists, performed simultaneously in a common space.
The score for Solo for voice 87, contains a layout of words and phrases and a set of instructions. Our interpretation of the score takes the form of a game to be played by two players. The game explores relations between verbal meaning and instant bodily interpretation of it; we set ourselves to search for the physical properties of the given words and phrases and establish a game that yields us a different result every time it is played.
